{"id":180,"date":"2012-01-11T13:28:45","date_gmt":"2012-01-11T13:28:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/helpmeinvestigate.com\/health\/?p=180"},"modified":"2021-10-22T07:05:20","modified_gmt":"2021-10-22T07:05:20","slug":"eu-ombudsman-opens-up-european-medicines-agency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/helpmeinvestigate.com\/health\/2012\/01\/11\/eu-ombudsman-opens-up-european-medicines-agency\/","title":{"rendered":"EU Ombudsman opens up European Medicines Agency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>UPDATE (Jan 20 2012): <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wobbing.eu\/news\/new-victory-ombudsman-and-reporters?mid=57\">A second decision further reinforces the recommendation<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Brigitte Alfter posts to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wobbing.eu\/page\/network\">Wobbing EU mailing list <\/a>about the EU Ombudsman&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ombudsman.europa.eu\/cases\/decision.faces\/en\/11119\/html.bookmark\">recommendation<\/a> that the European Medicines Agency disclose documents on adverse reactions to a particular medicine.<!--more-->The EMA <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ombudsman.europa.eu\/en\/press\/release.faces\/en\/11152\/html.bookmark\">had previously refused<\/a> a request for access on the grounds that &#8220;it needed to protect commercial interests,&#8221; according to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ombudsman.europa.eu\/en\/press\/release.faces\/en\/11152\/html.bookmark\">press release<\/a> on the decision which explains:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The Ombudsman\u2019s investigation led him to conclude that the documents in question did not contain commercially confidential information, but that personal data contained in the reports needed to be removed before disclosure.
