I nearly applied for a job through the JobCentre’s database, but realised it could be a scam. The company wanted all my details, then for me to do an hour’s unpaid work for them to assess. It was based in the south of England, so was presumably advertising UK-wide, gaining a lot of free labour in the process.
It had an impressive website but checking on Companies House I found it was registered less than a year and had not yet submitted accounts. I asked about DWP policy and was told that unless there’s a specific complaint, employers are taken at “face value”. How unlike the treatment of the unemployed! Does this open the door to scams such as identity theft at least?
