More than \u00a3125,000 was spent on four hours of music, games and displays at the London Olympic Torch Relay evening party.<\/p>\n<p>Media and Public Affairs Manager<strong>\u00a0Lara Ceronni<\/strong>\u00a0justified the spending by saying that many\u00a0\u201cwere not able to secure tickets to the Olympics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Waltham Forest Council<\/strong> explained that the event was for \u201cas many residents as possible\u201d to freely enjoy an \u201cOlympic experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, <strong>Westminster Council<\/strong> incurred no costs, with official sponsors<strong> Coca Cola<\/strong> hosting a \u00a315 a head evening concert at the GLA&#8217;s stage in<strong> Hyde Park<\/strong>\u00a0on the penultimate day of the torch.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Westminster<\/strong>\u2019s residents have a staggering 90% higher gross annual pay than those in<strong> Waltham Forest<\/strong>, averaging at \u00a340,000 in comparison to \u00a325,000, according to government figures.<\/p>\n<p>A Major Impact Events team, in <strong>Westminster<\/strong>, negotiated the costs for &#8216;city dressing&#8217; and some stewarding, getting funding from the six<strong> Business Improvement Districts<\/strong> (BIDs) and the GLA&#8217;s Your London 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The Council Commissioner, <strong>Tim Owen<\/strong> said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe City Council has very good working relationships with our six BIDs and held monthly meetings specifically about Games preparations with them for the two years leading up to the Games. This ensured their members were able to prepare as well as possible in order to benefit from London 2012.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In <strong>Waltham Forest<\/strong>, the <strong>Environment and Regeneration Management Board<\/strong> developed and approved a plan for their costs to come from local authority funding, setting aside a budget called Games Time Activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lara Cerroni<\/strong> said that <strong>LOCOG<\/strong> had managed to fund the <strong>Waltham Forest<\/strong> Torch Relay and Convoy, as well as the staging and the entertainment for the evening event.<\/p>\n<p>Since the <strong>London Olympics<\/strong> last year, <strong>Waltham Forest<\/strong> has faced \u00a3750,000 of cuts in the Library and Information Service.
